Welcome to the year 2008 at Alder Ray Resort!

The staff at Alder Bay Resort have compiled their answers to many of the questions frequently asked during reservation bookings at the resort. We hope this helps you with planning your trip! 

PLEASE REMEMBER WHEN E-MAILING A SPECIFIC RESERVATION REQUEST TO INCLUDE YOUR PHONE NUMBER AND ADDRESS. MANY TIMES IT IS EASIER TO TALK TO YOU WHEN WE HAVE CHOICES ABOUT SITES AND DATES AND WE WILL PHONE YOU BACK USUALLY IN THE EVENINGS. -- 

AGAIN, DON'T FORGET YOUR AREA CODE, PHONE NUMBER AND CAMPSITE REQUIREMENT! 

NOW FOR THE ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS. 

- We are just over a four hour drive from the ferry in Nanaimo. 

- All campsites are within a few minutes from the marina . There are 90 campsites and 44 berths at the marina. There is a two lane boat launch that is accessible for all tides. 

- We are within 10 minutes of the fishing areas for all types of salmon and bottom fish. Crab fishing is available as well. 

- Those wishing to know the best fishing tides should pick up a copy of the" Canadian Tide and Current Tables" (Mainly for those who are seeking bottom fish). The information is from Canadian Fisheries and Oceans and is available from your local sports store. 

- Long term parking is available for $5.00/day. 30 day and longer rates are available - please enquire. 

- The facilities at the resort include a sani-station (charge $4.00 ), washrooms which include separate rooms with a sink, toilet, and pay shower. There is a laundry room with pay washers and dryers (3 of each). We also have a store and gift shop. There is bait and tackle and freezing facilities. 

- Pets are allowed but must be on a leash and cleaned up after. There is a lot of space to take them for a walk on the roads around the resort. 

- There is a great sandy beach for sunbathing and launching kayaks . There is a charge for the kayak launch. Please check at the office for your launch pass and to arrange parking ( there's LOTS of parking !) 

- Alert Bay is situated on Cormorant Island and is known for its rich native culture. There are grocery stores, liquor store, hardware store and restaurants, the world famous U'Mista museum and a hospital. 

WHALE WATCHING

SeaSmoke Whale Watching is located in Alert Bay. This company, as well as Mackay Whale Watching of Port McNeill will make stops at Alder Ray Resort to pick up guests wishing to go on a whale watching tour. You can check out their tour by clicking on the links on our Things To Do page. You may book with them directly, or make arrangements when you arrive at the campsite. 

-Kayak rentals are available. There are various companies that will deliver to the resort. 

- There is no boat rental in the immediate area. Fishing charters are available.
